Soil Preparation and Planting

Software, electrical and SCADA for an agricultural system, from seedbed to growth checks.

The challenge

Soil Preparation and Planting

An agricultural system has to prepare the soil, plant seed at a set depth, monitor the soil's pH and minerals, and check the crop's growth over time, across a cultivator, cultipacker, plough, subsoiler and seed drill.

The plant

  • Cultivator, rotating or dragged
  • Cultipacker, forming a smooth, firm seedbed
  • Plough and subsoiler
  • Seed drill

What we did

  • Software, electrical design and SCADA for the system
  • Recipes handled through SCADA
  • Part tracking through MES, a paper trail for every batch
  • Reporting on how to improve the system

The process

Step by step

  1. Prepare the soil

  2. Plant seed to depth

  3. Monitor soil

  4. Check growth

What the system does

In operation

  • Seed planted to a specific depth
  • Soil pH and minerals monitored
  • Growth checked over time by computer vision
  • Sensors report the state of critical parts, so maintenance can come first
